Editorial Constitution
What this site will do — and what it will never do.
Eight commitments that define how SiteKiln operates. They're not aspirational. They're the line.
1. No paid tier. Ever.
Every guide, tool, template and reference card on SiteKiln is free. There is no Pro version, no premium gate, no 'unlock with subscription'. The only paywall on this site is the email gate on builder tools — and that's there to verify you're a real tradesperson, not to charge you.
2. No review gating.
We don't rank, score or rate individual firms, sponsors or tradespeople. We don't run a directory. We don't accept payment to feature one company over another. Sponsors get a logo and a link — they don't get editorial influence.
3. No AI-generated content.
We use AI as a research assistant to surface sources and cross-check facts. We never publish AI-generated text as-is. Every guide is written, reviewed and edited by a human.
4. No mental-health sponsorship.
The mental health and crisis sections of this site will never carry a sponsor logo, banner or referral link. Lifeline, MATES in Construction and Beyond Blue are listed because they help — not because they paid.
5. No agency resellers.
Sponsorship is sold direct. We don't work with media agencies, lead-gen brokers or programmatic networks. Every sponsor on the site has a name, a contact and an end date.
6. Primary sources only.
Every claim is traceable to legislation, ATO public rulings, Safe Work Australia / state WHS regulator guidance, Fair Work Ombudsman publications, or the NCC. We cite the Act, the regulation or the official body — not 'a popular construction blog'. If we can't back it up from a primary source, it doesn't go on the site.
7. Date-stamped figures, public correction flow.
Every guide shows when it was last reviewed. Volatile figures — tax thresholds, mileage rates, minimum wage, super guarantee — are date-stamped and reviewed each 1 July when most rates change. If you spot an error, email hello@kilnguides.co.uk — verified corrections are made promptly and the review date is updated. We don't quietly edit history.
8. Announced vs legislated.
Forthcoming changes are clearly labelled as 'announced' (proposed, not yet law) vs 'legislated' (in force or with a confirmed commencement date). We don't dress up press releases as law. Guidance, not advice — for your specific situation, see a registered tax agent, lawyer or licensed adviser.
How guides are researched and reviewed
Every guide starts with primary legislation — the actual Commonwealth Acts, state/territory Acts and regulations that govern the topic. We cross-reference against the Fair Work Ombudsman, Safe Work Australia, the relevant state/territory WHS regulator, the ATO, ASIC, and the Australian Building Codes Board (NCC). Where rules differ between states and territories, we create jurisdiction-specific versions and label them clearly.
We do not list named reviewers or solicit "endorsement" credentials. The editorial process — statute citations, date-stamping of volatile figures, announced-vs-legislated discipline, and a public correction flow — is the standard, not a personality. If a qualified person (registered tax agent, construction lawyer, RTO trainer, WHS practitioner) has substantive feedback or wants to contribute, they're welcome to get in touch.
Rate-based content (PAYG thresholds, super guarantee, GST registration threshold, ATO cents-per-kilometre, state award rates) is reviewed each 1 July when the majority of AU rates reset, and again whenever the relevant authority publishes an out-of-cycle change. Legislation-based guides are reviewed when the underlying law changes.
What SiteKiln is not
SiteKiln is not legal advice. It is not tax advice. It is not financial advice. It is not a substitute for professional consultation. We explain, in plain English, what the law says, what your options are and who to contact next. NOT financial advice - seek advice from a professional for your specific situation. If your situation is complex, urgent or involves significant money — get proper advice. We'll tell you who to call.
If you or a mate are in crisis: 000 for emergencies, Lifeline 13 11 14, MATES in Construction 1300 642 111, or Beyond Blue 1300 22 4636.
