SA building regulator: Consumer and Business Services (CBS)

    Last updated 6 Jun 2026

Consumer and Business Services (CBS) licenses building work contractors and tradespeople in South Australia and handles consumer and trade complaints. Domestic building work above the threshold requires building indemnity insurance.

Check or apply for a licence, or lodge a complaint: call 131 882 or use the CBS website.

Planning and building approval (development approval) is handled through the SA planning system and a private certifier or council, separate from your contractor licence.
