SafeWork NSW: contact, what they enforce, and how to report

    Last updated 6 Jun 2026

SafeWork NSW is the work health and safety (WHS) regulator for New South Wales. It administers the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (NSW) — the duties on you as a PCBU, on officers, and on workers.

Report an unsafe workplace or get advice: call 13 10 50.

Notifiable incident — report immediately: a death, a serious injury or illness, or a dangerous incident must be reported to SafeWork NSW straight away, and the site preserved until told otherwise. Check the SafeWork NSW website for the 24-hour notification line and online form.

SafeWork NSW also carries out inspections, issues improvement and prohibition notices, and supports elected health and safety representatives (HSRs). Workers compensation in NSW is separate (icare and the State Insurance Regulatory Authority).
