What To Ask Your Broker at Renewal

The renewal quote is the easy bit — knowing what is actually covered is the part that bites at claim time. The questions to ask your broker before you sign.
Cover a tradie usually needs
| Public liability | Third-party injury / property damage — often $5M–$20M; many sites need $10M+ to enter |
| Professional indemnity | If you advise, design or certify |
| Tools & plant | On site, in the van, overnight — check the limits |
| Workers' compensation | Compulsory if you employ — the scheme is state-based |
Ask before you sign
- Is defective workmanship excluded? Asbestos? Pollution?
- Unattended-vehicle rules — covered if tools are in a locked van overnight?
- New-for-old or market value on tools and the ute?
- Are subcontractors covered, and do they need their own cover?
