What To Ask Your Broker at Renewal

The renewal quote is the easy bit — knowing what is actually covered is the part that bites at claim time. The questions to ask your broker before you sign.

    Cover a tradie usually needs

Public liability Third-party injury / property damage — often $5M–$20M; many sites need $10M+ to enter
Professional indemnity If you advise, design or certify
Tools & plant On site, in the van, overnight — check the limits
Workers' compensation Compulsory if you employ — the scheme is state-based

    Ask before you sign

    • Is defective workmanship excluded? Asbestos? Pollution?
    • Unattended-vehicle rules — covered if tools are in a locked van overnight?
    • New-for-old or market value on tools and the ute?
    • Are subcontractors covered, and do they need their own cover?
Reference only — not financial advice. Cover, limits and exclusions vary by insurer; read the Product Disclosure Statement and confirm with a licensed broker for your trade and your states.
