NCC Climate Zones & Energy — by State

The NCC splits Australia into 8 climate zones and, since 2022, wants new homes at 7 stars. But the states adopted it on different timelines — here is where each one actually sits.
The basics
| Climate zones | 8 (Zone 1 tropical → Zone 8 alpine) |
| New Class 1 home (NCC 2022) | 7-star NatHERS + Whole-of-Home |
| NatHERS dataset | Finer 69-zone model behind the 8 NCC zones |
Major cities
| Brisbane | Zone 2 |
| Sydney / Perth / Adelaide | Zone 5 |
| Melbourne | Zone 6 |
State adoption (it is staggered)
| WA | 7-star + Whole-of-Home + condensation, from 1 May 2025 |
| TAS (Zone 7) | Retained 6-star (7-star deferred) + roof-space ventilation |
| NT (Zone 1) | Has NOT adopted NCC 2022 energy — stays 5-star |
| ACT (Zone 7) | 7-star; ACTHERS; mandatory energy-rating disclosure |
| QLD | QDC 4.1 — Queensland 7-star variations |
